MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Berkeley County man died Wednesday night after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car that turned in front of him near the Old Courthouse Square shopping plaza just north of Martinsburg, police said.

Jamie Anthony Pusey, 25, was pronounced dead at City Hospital in Martinsburg shortly after the accident was reported at the intersection of Williamsport Pike and Hinton Court about 6:30 p.m., West Virginia State Police Cpl. J.D. Burkhart said.

Jessica Shifflett, 24, of Martinsburg, was cited for failing to yield the right of way, Burkhart said.

Pusey was southbound on Williamsport Pike when Shifflett, who was northbound in a 2007 Pontiac G5, turned left toward Hinton Court and in front of the Suzuki GSX-R600 Pusey was riding, Burkhart said.

After striking the passenger side of the car in a T-bone-like manner, Pusey appeared to have been thrown from the motorcycle, Burkhart said.

Shifflett was not injured.

Brake marks left by the motorcycle indicated Pusey attempted to avoid the collision and was in his lane of travel, Burkhart said.

Burkhart said Shifflett was en route to her home along Hinton Court and Pusey had just left his residence north of Martinsburg.

Both vehicles later were towed from scene of the accident, which caused the road to be shut down for about 90 minutes, Burkhart said.

Burkhart was assisted by Trooper D.S. See, and Berkeley County Ambulance Authority Medic 97 and Bedington Volunteer Fire Department personnel also responded.
