CLEAR SPRING - Marshall Cleveland Kretzer, age 90, formerly of 13324 Blairs Valley Road, Clear Spring, and a resident of Homewood Nursing Home, passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at the home.

Born Feb. 17, 1919, in Clear Spring, Md., he was the son of the late Paul D. Kretzer and Lovesse K. Wishard Kretzer.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Clear Spring.

He attended Charlton School and graduated from Clear Spring High School, class of 1937. He and his wife owned and operated Cloverdale Dairy in Williamsport until his retirement in the late 1980s.


He was also a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau and the Wilson Ruritan Club.

He was an avid duckpin bowler. He bowled in numerous leagues for more than 45 years and followed fast-pitch softball.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, whom he wed on Aug. 24, 1940, Vera V. Kretzer of Williamsport; three daughters, Judith K. Hoffman and friend, Don Baker, of Hagerstown, Fonda S. Newkirk and husband, Bill, of Williamsport, and Cindy L. Stoneburner and husband, Jim, of Williamsport; one son, Dean R. Kretzer of Williamsport; two sisters, Alice Mellott of Waynesboro, Pa., and Margaret Clopper of Hagerstown; one brother, Fred Kretzer and wife, Sug, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a brother-in-law, Charles Schildtknecht of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, Todd Elwood, Craig Elwood and Wendy Mills, all of Clear Spring, Scott Kretzer and Kristin Hoffman of Hagerstown, and Gabe Kretzer of Hancock; 11 great-grandchildren, Sam, Sarah, Lakyn, C.J., Maggie, Bradly, Jesse, Jorden, Theo, Harley and Tanner.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Schildtknecht.

Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Clear Spring. The Rev. Allen Reed will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, today from 6 to 8 p.m.
