A local branch of the International Association of Fire Fighters recently made a donation toward the purchase of a van for the John R. Marsh Cancer Center, a department of Washington County Hospital.

IAFF Local 1605 Foundation Inc. donated $50,000 from its bonanza extravaganza proceeds toward the cost of the van in order to provide free transportation to and from the cancer center for cancer patients.

Drivers for the van will be arranged by the external transports department at the hospital, which provides similar transportation services to hospital patients in need. Officials said they anticipate having drivers available to pick up and drop off patients between 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 pm.

The center is at Robinwood Medical Center.
