Jonas Brothers event

The Valley Mall hosts a Jonas Brothers event this weekend in celebration of the group's new movie, "The Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience," which opens in theaters this weekend.

The event is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.

There is a $2 fee for all Jonas Brothers contest events. Proceeds will benefit the Washington County Boys & Girls Club.

Saturday evening events include a karaoke contest, trivia contest and look-a-like contest. All contestants must be registered by 6 p.m. Winners for each contest will receive two tickets to a Sunday showing of the Jonas Brothers' movie at Regal Cinema at the Valley Mall.

Scholarship available

The Washington County Retired Educational Personnel Association announces that scholarship applications are available for the 2009-10 academic year. Applications are available in the guidance offices of all Washington County public high schools, or can be downloaded at tent/maindownloads .cfm. Applications can also be picked up at the main office of the Board of Education on Commonwealth Avenue.


Eligible candidates must be a junior, senior or graduate from a Washington County public high school. Six $1,200 scholarships will be awarded.

Jumpstart camp

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Camp Joy El will present Jumpstart, a weekend event for middle school-students in grades six to nine.

Activities include treacherous trail, go-karts, group games, a campfire and more.

Eric Bouttieller will be the weekend's speaker.

Registration costs $57.57. A drawing will be held for campers who bring a friend who has never been to Camp Joy El before. The winner will receive a $200 discount off his or her summer camp registration cost. To register, call 717-369-4539 or go to

Elementary Energizer

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Kids in grades two to five are invited to Camp Joy El for the Elementary Energizer Connection weekend Friday, March 6, to Sunday, March 8. The theme for the weekend is "The Hunt." Campers are invited to take part in a real-live treasure hunt on the grounds of Camp Joy El. Other activities will include go-karts, mini-golf, hiking, sports, games and more. The weekend's speaker is Tracy Montoro, children's ministry director at First Church of God in Shippensburg, Pa.

The cost is $57.75; however if registered and paid in full by Friday, Feb. 27, campers will receive a discounted price of $52.75. Campers who bring a friend who has never been to Camp Joy El before will receive a free stuffed animal from the camp store.
