Mail Call

February 24, 2009

"This is in regards to the comment about Alesia Parson-McBean listing her address as City Hall. She lists it that way because - if you would have read the paper as well for that - a few years ago she had some hate mail, including death threats. That is why she lists it, for her personal safety as well as for her family. So you can put your vote back in for her now, because that is the only reason she lists the City Hall as her residence." - Hagerstown

"I think Tim Rowland was right on point the other day, to say that raw milk from farmers should be legalized. Tim, please tell us what we could do. Do we lobby Congress, do we write letters? Who do we e-mail, who do we write? Please give us more information of how we can be proactive about legalizing raw milk. Thank you, Tim." - Falling Waters, W.Va.

"Hershey's Peppermint Patty closed down, 300 jobs lost. The plant moved to Mexico, so I guess there won't be a Hershey peppermint patty. It will have to be a Mexi Peppermint Patty." - Clear Spring

"Collectivists/socialists keep demanding more and tighter centralized control over our private lives and property. Apparently, they do not understand and appreciate that people are not self-sacrificing 'worker bees.' Every single individual (and his private property) deserves his 'place in the sun.' America stands for liberty and individual freedom, not serfdom." - Martinsburg, W.Va.

"After the fire in Hancock that claimed the lives of the two young girls that lived there, I would encourage every family to take some time and come up with an emergency plan for their own family should something like that happen. We took the time with our two young children, and will continue to practice with them to prevent a terrible tragedy." - Hancock

"I read the article about the people trying to sell their homes. The two people that haven't sold yet should take a lesson from the one lady who did. She dropped the price by $60,000. People in Washington County are still trying to sell their homes like it was 2005. I would never pay $324,000 for a two-bedroom, two-bath house, no matter how nice it looked. That is a ridiculous price in today's market." - Hagerstown

"To the Christian caller who feels the need to speak on behalf of all Christians: I'm Christian, and I accept the gay lifestyle, I don't believe that it is a choice and I have gay friends. You don't have any more of a right to infringe on their rights than they do on yours. Can you show me how the gay lifestyle has infringed on your rights? I doubt it. You don't have the right to speak for every Christian, unless of course you are God." - Hagerstown

"The best quote I've seen regarding our current political situation is: 'Americans grew tired of being thought to be dumb by the rest of the world, so they went to the polls last November and removed all doubt.'" - Shepherdstown, W.Va.

"Thank you, Miss Penny Councilwoman. I'm very appreciated to have you as our council lady. I see in the paper today about the two businesses not paying the debt of their parking. If it would be you or I, we'd sure have to pay. Go after them. ... Take care of us people." - Hagerstown

"I'm calling to thank the neighbor that found our mail that blew out of our mailbox in the Indian Springs area. Thank you for mailing it for us. We appreciate it very much." - Indian Springs area

"I'm calling about the woman who keeps trapping people's pet cats with tags and collars on, on Gilbert Hills. You need to chill out. The cat has identification; you're wasting the Humane Society's time." - Hagerstown

"I'm calling in regards to the article about Alesia Parson-McBean listing her address as City Hall. I've been noticing that as well. What I think is that she claims that maybe she spends so time there working and spending - just spending so much time there that she just claims it as her residence. But that isn't that taking credit for something that maybe she shouldn't be taking credit for? It's her job." - Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

"I'm calling in regards to the person who said about Bush and the Republicans being rich. I'm 52 years old. I'd like to tell that person that since I've been growing up, the slogan was 'The rich get richer and the poor get poorer,' so you better get used to it." - College Road

"I was just reading Mail Call, and I see someone said 'Tell the right-wing David and Rush Limbaugh to lay off the president. We're all trying to get along.' Isn't that strange? When George Bush was in, all they did was knock him, and now all of a sudden they want everybody to get along. I think it's really funny." - Hagerstown

"The next time you see the American or the P.O.W. flag in bad condition, there's no need to call Mail Call. Instead, phone Bernie at 301-739-6748 or Ernie at 301-842-2562. We are life members of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 14, and members volunteer in the maintenance of both veterans memorials along I-81." - Maugansville
