Preps Area Roundup -- South girls make comeback to down 'Cats

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Alex Silva had 18 points, including a 6-for-8 effort from the foul line in the fourth quarter, and Tiah Thornton came off the bench to score all 12 of her points in the final period as South Hagerstown rallied from a 15-point, second-half deficit to defeat Williamsport, 55-46 in front of the Rebels' home crowd.

Silva also had 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals for South while Thornton added four steals. Luna Jefferson chipped in with nine points, 10 boards and four steals. The Rebels (7-14) outscored Williamsport in the second half, 35-13 and in the fourth quarter, 21-7.

Kelly Beard scored a team-high 10 points for Williamsport (9-12) while Brittany Malott added nine points.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -- Greysen Brooks had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Brittany Boarman recorded 16 points and 12 boards to lead Hedgesville in a rout of Washington in the West Virginia Region II Section 1 first-round matchup.

Katy Leborious scored 16 points and Jess Mason added 12 points for the Eagles (14-9), who ran away in the second half by outscoring the Patriots, 55-12.

Jasmyn Hosby scored 10 points for Washington (2-19).

The Eagles (14-7) strolled to an 11-2 lead in the first eight minutes and never wavered. as J.R. Mayles poured in 23 points for Hedgesville.
