Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a man Saturday morning outside his place of employment at 12724 Greencastle Pike.

Dennis Ray Slater, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene, Maryland State Police Sgt. David Bowers said Tuesday.

Slater worked at Miller Transportation, which is where he was found Saturday, Bowers said.

Investigators believe Slater walked outside, somehow fell to the ground and "a cab then inadvertently ran over him," Bowers said.

"We believe he was already on the ground when the car struck him," he said.

State police were at the scene Tuesday trying to piece together why Slater fell, Bowers said.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday by the medical examiner in Baltimore and investigators were awaiting the results, Bowers said.
