Fire burns 10 to 15 acres of field near Hancock

HANCOCK - A fire damaged a wooded field off Heavenly Acres Ridge Road on Saturday afternoon, a firefighter said Monday.

Ricky Unger of the Hancock Fire Co. said the fire started when someone was burning trash.

About 10 to 15 acres burned, Unger said.

It took firefighters about 2 1/2 to three hours to control the fire, he said.

Firefighters from Hagerstown; Clear Spring; Needmore, Pa.; Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and Allegany County, Md., assisted on the call.

Pa. girls face charges

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg Police Department charged three juveniles with theft and one of them with making false reports to police following an incident on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Police said one of the three unidentified girls called police from an address on Wayne Avenue, reporting that four girls at Chambersburg Area Senior High School had been threatening them.


Police went to the high school to investigate and determined that the report was false and that the girl who made the report and two others were involved in the theft of purses at the school.
