SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Clara M. Barnes, 86, a resident of South Mountain Restoration Center for the past three years and formerly of State Line, Pa., died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at the center.

Born Jan. 20, 1923, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margie Gorley Walter.

Her husband, Paul E. "Tiny" Barnes, died March 11, 1998. They were married March 1, 1941.

She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Greencastle, Pa.

She is survived by five daughters, Mary Ann Imes of Waynesboro, Peggy Stine of Marion, Pa., Roxann Black and Ella Starr, both of State Line, and Paula Barnes of St. Thomas, Pa.; five sons, Ronald E. Barnes of Waynesboro, James E. Barnes, P. Jeffrey Barnes and Lee R. Barnes, all of Greencastle, and Donald G. Barnes of State Line; one sister, Dorothy McLaughlin of Waynesboro; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles C. Walter Jr.; and one great-granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Greencastle. The Rev. Joseph L. Stahura will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, where prayers and a blessing will be offered at 8 p.m.
