Fiber seminar

Curves open house

Nursing training

Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education is offering a 16-hour training session for the registered nurse or case manager/delegating nurse in assisted living.

The course provides tools, resources and guidance for registered nurses who delegate nursing functions in the assisted living setting, including medication administration, and registered nurses who teach medication administration and medication technicians.


The first session is from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, and the second session is from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Friday, March 6. Both sessions will be at Hagerstown Community College's Valley Mall Training Center. The cost is $275 for both sessions.

CPR and First Aid classes

American Red Cross, Washington County Chapter will offer the following classes:

o CPR/AED - Adult - 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 3.

o Standard First Aid with adult CPR - 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, March 9.

o Standard First Aid - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12.

o CPR/AED for the professional rescuer and health-care provider, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 21.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro Hospital will offer a free health fair from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Waynesboro Area High School, 550 E. Second St. The fair will feature screenings, displays and handouts.

Gerontology workshop

FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick Community College gerontology program will offer a workshop titled "Ethics and Older Adulthood: A Framework for Ethnical Decision Making" from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the FCC Conference Center. Caregivers forum

FREDERICK, Md. -The Alzheimer's Association Western Maryland Chapter will offer an educational forum for caregivers from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 14, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 6934 Jefferson Pike. The keynote speaker is Dr. Chiadi Onyike, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and director of the Frontotemporal Dementia Clinic at Johns Hopkins. The half-day conference will provide information on the basics of Alzheimer's disease, a session on validating the behaviors commonly exhibited by people with dementia, and a caregiver panel.

Dental services for children

FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick County Health Department provides dental services for children ages 1 through 18 receiving Medical Assistance and who are uninsured or underinsured. A dental examination is also provided for children enrolled in Head Start who do not have a private dentist.
