Hubs and Warriors girls get No. 1 seeds

North Hagerstown's girls basketball team earned the No. 1 seed in Class 2A West, and Boonsboro's girls are the No. 1 seed in the Class 1A West East Sectional as the Maryland basketball playoff draw was announced Sunday.

Regional first round games will be played Friday and Saturday, with quarterfinals, semifinals and finals happening next week.

In 2A West action, South Hagerstown's girls (6-14) drew the No. 8 seed and will host No. 9-seed Liberty (12-8) on Friday as part of a doubleheader. South's boys (9-12) also drew the No. 8 seed and will host Francis Scott Key (2-17), with the winner facing No. 1-seed Century (18-3) on March 2.

The winner of the South Hagerstown-Liberty girls game will travel to North Hagerstown (19-2) on March 3.

North Hagerstown's boys drew the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 Winters Mill (5-16) on Friday, with the winner traveling to face No. 2-seed Walkersville (14-7) on March 2.

In the 1A West East Sectional, Williamsport's girls (9-11) drew the No. 5 seed and will travel to No. 4-seed Poolesville on Friday, with the winner traveling to face Boonsboro (15-6) on March 3. In other first-round games, No. 6 Catoctin (6-15) will travel to No. 3 Clear Spring (2-19) on Saturday, and No. 7 Brunswick (3-17) will travel to No. 2 Smithsburg (14-6) on Friday as part of a doubleheader.

Smithsburg's boys (7-15) drew the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Catoctin (7-15). No. 7-seed Clear Spring (15-6) will travel to No. 2 Poolesville on Friday. No. 4-seed Boonsboro (2-20) hosts No. 5-seed Williamsport (12-9) on Friday, with the winner facing No. 1-seed Brunswick (16-5) on March 2.

In the 1A West West Sectional, Hancock will host a doubleheader on Friday. The girls (6-13) are the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6-seed Fort Hill. Hancock's boys (5-16) are the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Northern Garrett.

Game dates are according to the guidelines set in the MPSSAA boys and girls basketball winter bulletin -- which can be read online at www.mpssaa.org -- and are subject to change. Game times will be announced later this week.
