Signs of the season

Recent wintry weather has turned trees, shrubs and fields crystalline and provided a beautiful canvas for Tri-State-area photographers.

We frequently feature readers' photos on this weekly photo page. So we're looking for the best recent photographs from the Tri-State area. This is a chance for amateur photographers to share their best images.

Quality is key. Sharp, large, color images look best. Close-up photos show detail better. If the subject is small, get close or use a telephoto lens to make the subject large in the photo. Digital photos must be sharp, at least 6 inches wide and have a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi). Files should be in JPEG or TIF formats and sent as e-mail attachments.

We will not have space for family portraits, posed scenes or news photos that are published elsewhere in the newspaper.

To submit a photo for the Gallery page, use one of these options:

o Drop it off at The Herald-Mail office at 100 Summit Ave., in Hagerstown.

o Mail it to The Herald-Mail Co., c/o Lifestyle, P.O. Box 439, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

o Send it via e-mail to lifestyle@herald-mail.com with "submitted photo" in the subject line.

With the photo, tell us your name, a daytime phone number and a brief description of the story behind the photo. If you want your mailed photo returned, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
