CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William Leidig Ryder Sr., 86, of Falling Spring Road, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Menno Haven in Chambersburg.

Born April 3, 1922, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late William Ryder and Martha Leidig Ryder.

He was a 1940 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School.

He and his wife, Miriam, were the founders of Ryder Supply Co. in Chambersburg. After retiring, he ministered to families in Nashville, Tenn. area nursing homes and hospitals.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam K. Lehman Ryder; three daughters, Connie Petracek of Nashville, and Carolyn Foust and Anna Bert, both of Chambersburg; one son, William Ryder Jr. of Nashville; two sisters, Dorothy Flory of Lancaster, Pa. and Alice Adler of Stone Mountain, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by seven sisters.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Don Wood will officiate.

Burial will be private in Lincoln Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
