CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert Edward Klein, 72, of 2715 Esther Drive, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Penn Hall Nursing Center.

Born Aug. 31, 1936, he was the son of the late Clarence Edward Klein and Carrie Greiner Stadtlander Klein of Pittsburgh.

Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Arts Degree in Art from Pennsylvania State University, he taught for three years in the public schools and seven years at the college level.

He transformed a 60-year-old Pennsylvania barn into a gallery featuring original American art and craft work.

He turned his creative energies into writing, winning awards from his area Writers Guild.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Agnew Klein; and two sons, William A. Klein of Camden, N.J. and James R. Klein of Philipsburg, Pa.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at Fleck Center at Luther Ridge in Chambersburg. The Rev. Beth Miller and the Rev. Herbert Spomer will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Luther Ridge, 2735 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202; or any of the Parkinson's Disease foundations.
