Preps Roundup -- Storm's Barrick is All-American

PREP WRESTLING



BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Mercersburg Academy's Cody Barrick went 4-2 at 145 pounds to earn sixth place and All-American status at the 74th annual National Prep Championships at Lehigh University on Saturday.

Also for the Blue Storm, Garrick Skubon went 2-2 at 140 pounds, Paul Suhey went 1-2 at 189 pounds, A.J. Firestone went 1-2 at 285 pounds and Sam Rodgers went 0-2 at 215 pounds.

All five wrestlers earned their spot at the tournament by finishing in the top six at last weekend's Pennsylvania State Tournament.

CUMBERLAND, Md. -- Spencer Wine scored a game-high 25 points, and Bishop Walsh outscored St. Maria Goretti 21-9 in the third quarter to pull away.

Aaron Wilkinson had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Gaels (8-26). Will Murray had 11 points and four rebounds, and Nic Martin added 10 points and five rebounds.

SAINT JAMES -- Caroline Salisbury had 20 points, four steals and four assists, and St. James outscored Hancock 21-5 in the second quarter on the way to a victory.

Jordan Wills added 12 points and five rebounds for the Saints (7-14).

Karly Logsdon had 12 points and Shawnda Wills added 11 for the Panthers (6-14).

Pennsylvania state meet

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Three local boys won medals, awarded to the top eight, at the Pennsylvania state championships.

Waynesboro's Cory Young placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.34 seconds, Chambersburg's David Eubanks placed seventh in the mile in 4:24.73 and Mercersburg Academy's Neb Osman placed seventh in the 3,000 in 8:59.97.

Hedgesville tickets for Monday

Because of the girls basketball sectional game between Hedgesville and Washington on Monday at 8 p.m., all tickets for the day, including for the Hedgesville boys game against Thomas Johnson at 4:30, will be $6 at the gate. In addition, only WVSSAC passes will be accepted.
