SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Demetrius Walker's tip-in of a Chris Carey miss as time expired lifted Salem International past Shepherd University in the West Virginia Conference.

Salem had three players score at least 25 points in defeating Shepherd. Walker scored 31, Carey had 27 and Travis Sinclair added 25 for Salem (2-22, 2-15).

Jonathan Motichka led Shepherd (11-13, 10-7) with 30 points. Justin Jarman had 13 points and eight rebounds, Liki Turner posted his fifth straight double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, Fred Lymas had 11 points, six boards and four assists, and Tyrone Roach was also in double figures with 11 points.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Katie Warehime and Camille Wilmer each scored 16 points to lead Shepherd University past Salem International (0-25, 0-18) in the West Virginia Conference.

Shelby Fayak had 12 points and Hannah Safren added 11 points and five assists for the Rams (12-13, 9-9).

Salisbury 71, Hood 63

SALISBURY, Md. -- Hood College junior Jen Willison, a Hancock graduate, registered her 11th double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds, but it was not enough as Hood (4-21, 2-14 Capital Athletic Conference) fell to Salisbury (9-16, 9-7) in its regular-season finale.

Willison passed the 1,000 career points milestone Wednesday night in Hood's loss to Stevenson at Mount St. Mary's University.

HCC at Susquehanna Open

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Hagerstown Community College's Dustin Adams placed third in the men's 3,000-meter run in 9:05.85.

For the HCC women, Samantha Valaton was fifth in the 200 (27.51) and sixth in the 400 (1:02.64), while Jordan Atha was sixth in the mile in a national-qualifying time of 5:26.06.

Shepherd 18, Elizabeth City 2

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- Shepherd University completed a three-game sweep of Elizabeth City State.

Brett Caplan had four hits with a pair of homers to pace the Rams (3-3). Anthony Jackson also added four hits. Brian Collins added three hits and a home run, while Nathan Minnich also rapped three hits.

Patrick Smith (1-0) worked 3 1/3 innings of middle relief to pick up his first win of the year.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL



Shepherd 10-6, Bluefield 0-0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University swept Bluefield State in the Rams' season-opening West Virginia Conference doubleheader.

Amanda Orkoskey went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to pace the Rams in the opener. Courtni Williams also went 2-for-3 with two runs, while Amy Edmondson went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Nichole Pitcock scattered three hits and fanned three over five innings to pick up the win.

Edmondson hit a solo homer and Tricia Bettura fanned three and walked three over five innings for her first collegiate victory in the second game. Erica Snoddy scattered two hits over two innings with three strikeouts.
