WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mr. Homer C. "Doc" Mong Sr., 76, of 8122 Mentzer Gap Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Aug. 29, 1932, in Ringgold, he was the son of the late David E. and Lillian E. Kendall Mong.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred C. Gardenhour Mong.

He was self-employed as a concrete contractor.

He is survived by four daughters, Mary A. Gilbert and Cathy J. Fields, both of Chambersburg, Joycene Ray of Zullinger, and Lillian M. Patterson of Bath, Pa.; seven sons, Robert L. Mong, Homer C. Mong Jr. and Brian K. Mong, all of Chambersburg, Roger A. Mong, William T. Mong, and Mark E. Mong, all of Waynesboro, and James A. Mong of Harrisonville, Pa.; four sisters, Sylvia Weaver and Rebecca Heefner, both of Waynesboro, Margaret Bennett of Prattville, Ala., and Helen McCardell of Chambersburg; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Weaver and Catherine Wolfe; and six brothers, Paul Mong, Elmer Mong, Richard Mong, Sydney Mong, David Mong and Joseph Mong.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Gregory Helman will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery near Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
