GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jack R. Layman, 53, of 222 E. Franklin St., died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Dec. 31, 1955, in McKeesport, Pa., he was the stepson of the late Henry M. Scott and son of Mary Jane Gary Scott of State Line, Pa., and the late William Layman.

He was a 1974 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

He worked at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown.

He was a member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 and Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373, both of Greencastle.


In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Christine M. Jakoby Layman; three sons, Jack S. Layman of Hagerstown, Jeremy S. Layman of Philadelphia and Jamie S. Layman of Greencastle; two sisters, Barb Jessup of Export, Pa., and Melissa Hipkins of Frederick, Md.; one brother, Lee Bayer of Pittsburgh; one granddaughter; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Bayer.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. Pastor Craig Jones will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday one hour before services at the funeral home.

The family requests flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the Television Project at John L. and Cora I. Grove Cancer Center, c/o Summit Health Development Office, 176 S. Coldbrook Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
