ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Kitty was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Washington, D.C., and died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at Goodwin House Alexandria in Alexandria, Va.

She was the daughter of Benjamin B. Bean and Verna A. Dove. She lost her mother at an early age and was raised by her uncle and aunt, Charles and Ida Robertson of Washington, D.C., and Seat Pleasant, Md.

She was a graduate of Maryland Park High School.

She was married twice. Both of her husbands, Richard J. Chaney and Paul Stottlemyer, are deceased.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Charles R. Chaney of Hagerstown, Md.; her daughter, Sue E. Kenny of Charlotte, N.C.; and her stepdaughter, Betty Witmer of Greencastle, Pa. She also is survived by four grandchildren, C. Scott Chaney of Monrovia, Calif., Megan Walsh of Charlotte, Laura Dawson of Hagerstown and Christopher Kenny of New York, N.Y. She also is survived by six great-grandchildren.

She spent the last seven years in the Episcopal retirement home of Goodwin House in Alexandria.

She was a past member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hagerstown, where she was president of the Ladies Guild for 25 years. She was on the Church Visiting Committee for Homewood Nursing Home and a choir member for many years at St. Ann's Church in Smithsburg, Md.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at 3:30 p.m. at Goodwin House Memorial Chapel. The Rev. J. Bruce Stewart will officiate. A reception will follow.
