MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Frances Hammond Stanley, 88, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born Oct. 13, 1920, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank T. and Nellie V. LeMaster Hammond.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentis Miller Stanley, in 1987.

She retired from JCPenney Co. in 1982.

She was a member a St. Luke's United Methodist Church and a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class No. 21.

She is survived by two sons, F. Thomas Stanley of Bedington, W.Va. and Richard L. Stanley at home; one brother, Donald Hammond of Martinsburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard Hammond and Charles Hammond; one half sister, Evelyn Miller; and one half brother, James May.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 700 New York Ave., Martinsburg, WVÂ 25401.
