Hagerstown Speedway cancels opening weekend once again

Hagerstown Speedway cancels opening weekend once again

February 19, 2009

For the seventh season in a row, Hagerstown Speedway has been forced to cancel its opening weekend of racing.

Saturday's season-opening show was to feature the 410 Sprints and Late Models, but with temperatures forecast in the 30s this weekend, promoter Frank Plessinger canceled the weekend festivities.

"It would be too cold for both fans and competitors," Plessinger said. "Track preparation would be very difficult with the subfreezing temperatures we have been having at night."

The speedway will try again Feb. 28 with the Octoberfest qualifier for Big Block Modifieds and Late Models. Pit gates will open at 10 a.m. and grandstands at 11. Hot laps begin at 1 p.m. with races scheduled to start around 1:30.

Should weather be a factor that day, races will be run on March 1 following the same schedule.
