FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. -- Bertram A. Craven Jr., 76, of 6235 Merion Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at his home.

Born Oct. 26, 1932, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Bertram A. Craven Sr. and Harriet Roser Craven.

He was a graduate of the M. Dobbin Vocational Technical School, where he served as vice president S.A. during his senior year.

He was employed for 30 years as an air traffic controller with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration, retiring as a supervisor in 1985.


He served in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.

He was a member of Evergreen Lodge 153 F&AM of Berlin, Md. and Acacia Lodge 586 F&AM of Waynesboro, Pa.

In retirement, he attended Golf Works School in Newark, Ohio, specializing in golf club repair and clubmaking. He was accredited as a "Class A" clubmaker and was a working member of the Professional Clubmaker Society.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy J. Love Craven, whom he married Oct. 2, 1975; three children, William B. Craven of Clearbrook, Va., Lynn C. Graham of Berryville, Va. and David L. Craven of Vienna, Va.; one stepdaughter, Jennifer L. Brooks of Lovettsville, Va.; one stepson, F.M. Love of Winchester, Va.; one brother, Lewis Craven of Bainbridge, Pa.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.

Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Chambersburg.
