He served in the European Theater as an infantry paratrooper.
He was a member and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Tuskarora Kurnals, Exhausted Rooster Club, Supper Club and the Torch Club. He served on the Board of Directors of the Shenandoah Federal Savings and Loan and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by two daughters, Peggy V. Bottlik of Redondo Beach, Calif. and Della Bastianelli of Alexandria, Va.; one son, Mark Vaughan of Annandale, Va.; one brother, William D. Vaughan of Cherry Hill, N.J.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; and his dear friend, Jane West of Inwood, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by one son, Taylor W. Vaughan; one sister, Peggy A. Cox; and four brothers, Archa Vaughan Jr., Clement S. Vaughan, George R. Vaughan and Charles H. Vaughan (in infancy).
A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg. The Rev. Rufus Burton will officiate.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.
