Teams set for benefit games

The Williamsport High School men's alumni basketball games to benefit Katie Stains and Josh Forsythe will be played Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. in the WHS gymnasium. Admission costs $5. The first game will include alumni from 1996 to 2008; the nightcap will feature alumni from 1969 through 1995.

1996 to 2008 team rosters:

Community band to hold rehearsal

Spring rehearsals have begun for the annual Williamsport Community Band spring concert. Rehearsals will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the basement of the Williamsport library. Bring a music stand. New members are welcome.

Band boosters to meet at Wendy's

Williamsport Blue Band night is today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wendy's Restaurant at 1570 Wesel Blvd. in Valley Plaza.

If patrons mention the Blue Band during the hours of the promotion, Wendy's will give a portion of the diner's bill to the uniform fund.

The band recently purchased new uniforms, and all money raised will be used to help pay them off, according to a spokesman for the Williamsport Band Boosters.

Ham and turkey dinner set for Saturday

An all-you-can eat ham and turkey dinner will be Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at Rehoboth UMC Fellowship Hall.

Tickets cost $9 for adults and $5 for those ages 5 to 11. Children 4 and younger will be admitted free.

The church is handicapped-accessible). The church is at 30 E. Salisbury St.

Fastnachts available to order from church

The Youth of Williamsport United Methodist Church are holding a fastnachts and doughnuts fundraiser.

You can order fastnachts, raised doughnuts and doughnut holes by Feb. 20 for pickup at the church, 25 E. Church St., on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Doughnuts cost $5 per dozen or $2.50 per half dozen and doughnut holes cost $1.75 per dozen. Choice of toppings - powdered sugar, glaze, cinnamon sugar and plain. To order, call Diana Church at 301-223-7040.


Kelly Wright, Fox News correspondent, will be the emcee for Cedar Ridge Winterfest, a fund-raising event sponsored by Cedar Ridge Ministries and Whitetail Resort.

Featuring the sixth annual Wild and Wacky Cardboard Sled Derby, the event will be held at the Whitetail Adventure Tubing Sunday, March 1, beginning with registration at 2 p.m.

The event is a day of competition on the tubing slopes as participants bring their own cardboard sled creations and race them down the hill. This year's event has been expanded to include a climbing wall, snowman building contest, tug of war contest and live music throughout the day. Local bands to perform include the Ryan Payne Band, Next 2 Nothing and Life Gate.

Following the sled derby, Whitetail will offer specially priced night tubing until 10 p.m.

Proceeds benefit Cedar Ridge Adventures, an adventure-based program that provides goal-setting, team building, decision making and problem solving training for the residents and students of Cedar Ridge and for groups of people from the community.

Spaghetti dinner

The Williamsport Blue Band Boosters will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Sunday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the cafeteria of Williamsport High School to benefit Josh Forsythe, a freshman member of the Blue Band.

Josh was diagnosed last fall with Ewings Sarcoma, an aggressive cancer. All proceeds from the dinner will go directly to his family to help cover the expenses related to his illness.

Williamsport Volunteer Fire & EMS will hold a Vera Bradley Bingo Sunday at the fire hall on Brandy Drive. Tickets cost $25 per person and include 30 games of bingo on six cards and lunch catered by Leiters' Fine Catering.
