Comprehensive plan deadline extended

February 18, 2009

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The newest deadline for Waynesboro and Washington Township to submit their joint comprehensive plan is a full year after the original one set by the state.

"It has to be done by June 30," Borough Manager Lloyd Hamberger said this week.

The 200-page document, which will guide future land use and economic development, has been submitted to the county planning commission and surrounding municipalities for their review. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the plan in the spring, Hamberger said.

Municipal officials have described the comprehensive plan as a "road map" for decision making in coming years.

The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development awarded the Borough of Waynesboro and surrounding Washington Township $36,000 to develop the plan with Reading, Pa., consultant Spotts, Stevens & McCoy.

It takes into account several areas of interest, including historic preservation, recreation plans, transportation maps and downtown revitalization.
