McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Amos E. Atherton, 85, of 30 Cloverleaf Court, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg.
Born Aug. 28, 1923, in Sylvan, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence H. and Grace M. Keefer Atherton.
He retired in 1970 from Letterkenny Army Depot.
He was a member of Maple Grove Church of God in Mercersburg, Pa., and attended Greencastle (Pa.) Church of God.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of VFW 6241 and American Legion 517, both of Mercersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Neil Atherton, whom he married Sept. 7, 1949; one daughter, Linda K. Keefer of Clear Spring; four sons, Larry M. Atherton, Travis W. Atherton and Tommy E. Keyser, all of Mercersburg, and Henry F. Keyser of Cove Gap, Pa.; one sister, Alice Hensley of Harrisonville, Pa.; two brothers, Frank Atherton and Darrel Atherton, both of Mercersburg; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
