Scholarships available for South High graduates

The South Hagerstown High Alumni Association has announced that it will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to two South High graduating seniors this spring.

The recipients of the scholarships must have plans to attend an accredited university, college, junior college or community college, or business/technical/vocational school.

Applications will be available in the South High guidance office. The deadline for receiving applications is Wednesday, April 1.

Teen Idol auditions

Washington County Free Library will hold Teen Idol auditions at Valley Mall Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m.

Auditions will be held in the food court area of the mall. For more information, call the library at 301-739-3250.

Indoor yard sale

St. James Brethren Church, at 17718 Lappans Road, will host an indoor yard sale Saturday, Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Breakfast will be served from 8 to 10 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.


The menu will consist of the following: homemade soups - vegetable, chicken corn and bean - and country ham, baked ham and turkey sandwiches. A bake sale will also be available. Snow date is scheduled for March 7.

Western Heights

The Western Heights PTSA will host a basket bingo Sunday, March 22, at the Western Enterprise Fire Hall. Tickets cost $20 per person. Those attending must be at least 18 years or older to play. Food will be available for purchase. The event will include 22 games along with special raffles, door prizes and tip jars. All baskets will be filled. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and bingo will begin at 1:30 p.m. For more information, call Becky Sottile at 301-491-3713.

Benefit games

The Williamsport High School men's alumni basketball games to benefit Katie Stains and Josh Forsythe will be played Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. in the WHS gymnasium. Admission costs $5. The first game will include alumni from 1996 to 2008; the nightcap will feature alumni from 1969 through 1995.

Chic-fil-A will be selling sandwiches at the concession stand. The Chic-fil-A Cow will be on hand for halftime entertainment during the first game.


WILLIAMSPORT - For women interested in staying fit as they age, SilverSneakers offer a unique opportunity.

The Curves in Williamsport at 10210 Gov. Lane Blvd. will have open houses Feb. 24 and 25 all day. There will be food, beverages and information.
