Man faces child porn charge

February 18, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Berkeley County man was arraigned on one felony count of child pornography Wednesday in magistrate court following an investigation of a sexual abuse complaint by West Virginia State Police, according to court records.

Troy Gene Shelby, aka Mario Colangelo, 38, was in Eastern Regional Jail Wednesday night after being arraigned by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller, who set a $25,000 bond for the defendant.

State police allegedly found 16 video files on an external hard drive in Shelby's possession that contained suspected child pornography and another 200 "suspect" graphic files that also contained child pornography, according to a complaint filed by Sgt. D.E. Boober.

A laptop computer seized after the investigation began in February 2008 contained more than 50 graphic files and more than a dozen video files with child pornography, Boober said.

Copies of the files found on the laptop were submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to identify known victims, Boober said.

The computer equipment was seized from Shelby's residence at 162 Harranda Court in Inwood, W.Va., but court records filed with the court did not list a current known address for the defendant.

The results of a digital forensic examination of the equipment seized were not provided to Boober until Jan. 14, according to the sergeant's complaint.
