Driver injured in crash on I-70

February 17, 2009

CLEAR SPRING -- One person was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 1:21 p.m. today -- an accident that closed westbound Interstate 70 for about a half hour.

Maryland State Police are investigating the accident just west of St. Paul Road.

The westbound lanes were reopened by 1:50 p.m. after emergency personnel left the scene though police said travel was still sluggish through the area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Mitsubishi four-door sedan was traveling westbound on I-70 west of St. Paul Road when a tractor and trailer combination inadvertently changed lanes, causing the Mitsubishi to travel into the center median where the vehicle rolled over several times.

The vehicle was being driven by a person from Hancock whose injuries were unknown, police said at 2 p.m.

Police found the tractor and trailer combination on westbound I-68 west of I-70.
