Lowe's in Rouzerville evacuated after powder found in lot

ROUZERVILLE, Pa. - The Lowe's in Rouzerville Commons was evacuated Saturday night as the Blue Ridge Fire & Rescue Squad evaluated a white powder found in a container in the parking lot.

Blue Ridge Fire & Rescue Squad Administrator Patrick Fleagle said the chemical was thiourea dioxide, which is used in dyeing and paper-making.

"It was a benign incident," he said.

The department went to the store at approximately 7:40 p.m. after an employee found a container with chemical residue and took it into the store, Fleagle said.

The building was not initially evacuated, but then the decision was made to clear the building as a precaution, he said.
