Preps Area Roundup -- Hubs' Lion-taming act comes up short

WALKERSVILLE, Md. -- North Hagerstown, which has lost to Walkersville 74-58 on Feb. 6, nearly pulled off an upset before falling to the Lions 70-67 on Monday in an MVAL Piedmont contest.

North's Allen Sandberg missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have tied the game after Walkersville's Scott Morris had hit a go-ahead bucket with 15 seconds remaining.

Brent Bell led the Hubs (9-11, 2-5) with 29 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Joe Mattei added 18 points and Tyler Spencer had seven rebounds.

Morris led Walkersville (13-6, 5-1) with 27 points.

Williamsport 58, Broadfording 31

Michael Warrenfeltz led Williamsport with 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals as the Wildcats went 26-for-36 from the foul line in a win over Broadfording Christian Academy.

Casey McKenrick scored 11 points and Colby McCauley added four assists for the Wildcats (11-8), who outscored Broadfording in the final three quarters, 50-18.

Pete Cradduck had 11 points and six rebounds for the Lions (16-10).

OAKTON, Va. -- Mike Russ had 21 points and 10 rebounds, which was unable to hand Flint Hill (20-3, 12-0) its first Mid Atlantic Conference loss.

Dylan Zimmerman chipped in with 13 points and five boards for the Saints (13-12, 4-7), who gave up 69 points in the middle two quarters.

Hancock 64, Paw Paw 32

HANCOCK -- Tommy Kratz and Josh Smith hit two 3s each and Spencer Heller scored nine points in the second quarter as Hancock pulled away to a victory over Paw Paw.

The Panthers (5-15) outscored the Pirates 29-5 in the period to build a 43-12 halftime lead. Heller was able to control the paint and Smith hit both of his 3s right before the half to extend the lead.

Smith finished with 11 points, while Heller added nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Jarrod McCoy had nine rebounds and Nick Lanehart added eight boards.

KEYSER, W.Va. -- Deidra Burch scored a game-high 23 points to lead Berkeley Springs past Keyser (2-19, 0-6) in the Potomac Valley Conference.

Amber Booher had 19 points for the Indians (14-5, 5-1) while Jess Haynes added 11 points and Rebecca Trump had seven rebounds.
