Shepherd debaters take 2nd in tourney

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. - Shepherd University's debate and forensics team won second place and 18 individual awards Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 in Montreal, Canada.

Brittany Young of Inwood, W.Va., won seven awards: first place for After Dinner Speaking; second place in Impromptu; second place in the Dramatic Duo; fourth place for Communication Analysis; fourth place for Persuasion; second place in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate; and fifth place in the Pentathlon.

Nicholas DiBartolomeo of Martinsburg, W.Va., also won seven awards.

Jess Leasure of Middletown, Md., won two awards and Edward Rhodes of Martinsburg won two awards.

Shepherd took second place in the team sweepstakes.

Bowling Green University, Alderson-Broaddus, Randolph-Macon, Syracuse University and Bloomsburg University also participated in the tournament.
