Sustainable gardening workshop in Hancock

The public is invited to a workshop on sustainable gardening Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, 200 Douglas St., in Hancock.

Seminars will include topics on sustain ability, water and weather; soil, compost, and compost crops; diet and grains; seed selection and propagation; and bed and soil for the year-round garden.

A variety of foods that can be grown in this area will be available to taste. Learn to winnow wheat with a basket. See videos on compost crops and network with others. A library display will show you a treasure of knowledge that is out there and how easily you can tap into it.

Lunch and a taster's table will be available from noon to 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be available, but you might want to bring a brown bag lunch.

The event is free and open to the public. Call 814-735-2199 to register so that adequate taster's table items and giveaways will be available for all who attend.
