CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Edna C. Clendening, 87, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born March 11, 1921, in Keystone, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Gilmer E. Crowder and Ada A. Kensinger Crowder.

Her husband, Charles B. Clendening III, died in 1994.

She was a 1939 graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield, W.Va.

She and her husband operated Clendening Motor Co. in Charles Town.

She was a member of Shannondale Springs Baptist Church in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 1028 of Charles Town, 40 & 8, Sleepy Hollow Ladies Golf Association, Nancy Watkins Water Aerobics Group and National Federation of Republican Women.


She is survived by one son, Stephen W. Coon of Charles Town; one sister, Mildred Brooks of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one brother, Robert C. Crowder of Princeton, W.Va.; two grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel V. Sarver.

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. at Charles Town Baptist Church. The Rev. Harold Jones will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
