BIG POOL - Wayne Chalmers Deshong, 73, of 13621 Indian Springs Road, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at his home.

Born Aug. 29, 1935, in Harrisonville, Pa., he was the son of the late Chester W. and Melva Harriet Deshong.

His hobby was truck driving. He was employed as a truck driver by Rayloc, retiring after 48 years.

He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

He was a member of The Improved Order of Red Men Conococheague Tribe 84 of Williamsport and the American Legion of McConnellsburg, Pa.

He was a NASCAR fan and Dale Earnhardt Sr. was his favorite driver.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Deshong; two daughters, Doris Ann Lewis of Hagerstown and her fianc, Kenneth Hovermale, and Diane Kay Richardson of Hagerstown; two sons, Gary Wayne Deshong of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Glenn Ray Deshong of Hagerstown and his fianc, Shirley Steele; three granddaughters, Ashley Marie Lewis and Trista Diana Kershner, both of Hagerstown, and Stacey Lynn Carbaugh of Greencastle, Pa.; and two great-grandchildren, Peyton RayAnn Swope and Charles Randall Kershner, both of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Norma "Polly" Truax; two brothers, Robert C. Deshong and Norman Paul Deshong; one granddaughter, Lisa Ann Lewis; one grandson, Charles E. Richardson Jr.; daughter-in-law, Linda G. Deshong; and son-in-law, Charles E. Richardson Sr.

Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. Pastor Lynn Munson and Pastor Jeffery Anthony will officiate.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
