Virginia Emmert Leo, 99

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Virginia Emmert Leo, 99, passed away on Jan. 30, 2009, in Haverford, Pa.

She was born in Mapleville, Md., graduated from Hagerstown (Md.) High School in 1927, and received a degree in nursing from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pa., in 1931.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Clarence V. Leo. For the past 20 years, she lived at The Quadrangle in Haverford.

While living in Hagerstown, she was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Fountain Head Country Club, where she was an avid golfer.

She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Virginia loved her golf, bowling, playing bridge, gardening, reading and cooking.

Virginia was an exceptionally loving and caring person. She is survived by her two children, Katherine E. Mullen III of Villanova, Pa., and Andrew B. Leo of Holly Springs, N.C. She enjoyed the affection and devotion of four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren who called her "Nana." Fortunately, she enjoyed excellent health until the final four months of her life.

No services will be held, at her request, and her ashes will be interred beside her husband in Hagerstown.
