My Fuzzy Valentine portraits

Pets owners will have an opportunity to have a portrait created with their furry companions this Valentine's Day when local photographer Chris Heurich hosts a My Fuzzy Valentine Portraits event at Long Meadow Shopping Center. The event is sponsored by The Humane Society of Washington County.

Photography sessions will be from 10 a.m. to2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14. For a donation of $20, owners will have a 15-minute photography sitting with Heurich, and receive a 5-inch-by-7-inch photograph of pet and the opportunity to purchase more photographs.

To reserve a sitting, call the Humane Society of Washington County at 301-733-2060, ext. 237. Sittings will be on a first-come, first-serve basis and reservations are recommended.

Habitat dinner and auction

Habitat for Humanity's 16th annual dinner and auction will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Hagerstown Community College's Athletic Recreation and Community Center, 11400 Robinwood Drive in Hagerstown.


Tickets cost $45 per person or $450 for a table of 10. Deadline for reservations is Friday, March 6.

The event includes dinner, silent auction, live auction, raffles, games and more. Items up for auction include stays at Savage River Lodge, Wintergreen Resort, a guided fishing trip on the Potomac, a live pet pot-bellied pig, bonfire party with hayride, pottery and more.

Casual dress to the western theme is encouraged. For reservations, call 301-791-9009 or e-mail by March 6.

9/11 memorial fund

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -The Hedgesville 9/11 Memorial Fund is collecting donations for a permanent memorial to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy and to honor those whose lives were lost. The memorial will be erected at Hedgesville town spring.

Tax-deductible donations to the fund may be dropped off at the following businesses in Hedgesville:

o Friends, the Haircutters of Hedgesville, 100 E. Main St.

o Kingfish's Antiques,210 N. Mary St.

o North Mountain Arts,201 N. Mary St.

o Small Things Crafts at Persnickety Place, 107 E. Main St.

Donations can be mailed to: The Hedgesville 9/11 Memorial Fund, 393 Big Park Road, Hedgesville, WV 25427.

Checks should be made payable to the "Hedgesville 9/11 Memorial Fund."

The memorial dedication ceremony will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Hedgesville town spring on W.Va. 9, across from the volunteer fire department.
