SMITHSBURG - Winifred Amy Hollis Myerly, 83, of Blue Mountain Estates, Smithsburg, Md., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Julia Manor Health Care Center in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Jan. 11, 1926, in Smith's Parrish, Bermuda, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Teresa (O'Donnell) Hollis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Edward Myerly Sr., who died in 1978. They were married Sept. 16, 1943.


Amy retired from Washington County Hospital in 1988.

Amy was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hagerstown. She was an active member of many community organizations and clubs. She was a member of the Leitersburg Senior Citizens, the Sunshine Leisure Club, Local Lioness Club, Cavetown Homemakers Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 211 of Funkstown and Ladies Auxiliary of the Local AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown. She served on several committees for the Washington County Commission on Aging and the AARP, for which she hosted numerous bus trips.

Amy was a devoted mother and grandmother; and, she will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by daughters, Ann O'Toole and husband, Denny, of Waynesboro, Pa., and Mary Gleason and husband, James, of Smithsburg; son, Roger Myerly and wife, Kim, of Tybee Island, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Jill Myerly of Richmond, Va.; brothers, Jerome Hollis and wife, Betty, of Bermuda, and Brendan Hollis and wife, Barbara, of Florida; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Laura O'Toole of Chambersburg, Pa., Amy Lynn O'Toole of Atlanta, Ga., Kathy Gleason Hogan and husband, Adam, of Chesapeake, Va., and their three children, Hunter, Ashleigh and Max, John Gleason and wife, Karen, of Hagerstown, and their three children, Alyssa, Hannah and Logan, Brian Myerly and wife, Cindy, of Richmond, and their daughter, Kyrstin and Christine Myerly of Virginia Beach, Va., and her son, Derek.

She was preceded in death by son, Harry E. Myerly Jr., who died in 1995.

There will be no viewing.

Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Amy to St. Mary's Catholic Church at 218 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
