Ruritan Club elects new officers



The new slate of officers for the Maugansville Ruritan Club elected to serve in 2009 are as follows:

Gary Ellis, president; Bill Walker, vice president; Marty Lumm, secretary; Don Funk, treasurer; and Charley Lumm, assistant secretary. The directors are Ben Greathead, Charlie Lee and Samantha Frazee. Also, Mike Danley was elected Potomac district governor for 2009, overseeing the 50 clubs in the Maryland/Pennsylvania/West Virginia region.

Club says thanks



The Maugansville Ruritan Club would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming response at the Jan. 24 pancake breakfast.

The club experienced record numbers of meals served and funds raised to help support the many programs that it sponsors.

The final two pancake breakfasts for this season will be Saturday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 28, from 6:30 to 11 a.m. at the Ruritan Community Center.

Little League



Maugansville Little League registration will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Maugansville Ruritan Building.

Letters of interest for managers in the T-ball, minor, junior and senior divisions are still being accepted.

Pet portraits



Pet owners will have the opportunity to have a portrait created with their favorite furry companions this Valentine's Day when local photographer Chris Heurich hosts his first My Fuzzy Valentine Portraits event at Long Meadow Shopping Center.

The photography sessions will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For a donation of $20, pet owners will have a 15 minute professional photography sitting with Heurich, receive a free 5-by-7 photograph of their furry companions and the opportunity to purchase additional photographs.

To reserve a sitting, call 301-733-2060, ext. 237. Sittings will be on a first- come, first-served basis and reservations are strongly recommended.

Girls softball



Washington County Girls Softball League registration for third grade through eighth grade will take place at Dick's Sporting Goods in the Centre at Hagerstown (Wal-Mart shopping center) on the following dates:

Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration will also be conducted at Extra-Innings on Wednesday, Feb. 18, and Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The registration fee is $40, due at sign-up.
