CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Bessie A. Bussey, 77, of Charles Town, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Oct. 12, 1931, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late George A. Hardy and Hester Weedon Hardy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Columbus Bussey, in 1988.

She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Frederick.

She retired from the Jefferson County (W.Va.) Board of Education as a cafeteria cook.

She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Charles Town.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara West of Leesburg, Va., Eleanor Bussey of Charles Town, Cynthia Yates of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Sharon Bussey of Winchester, Va.; one son, David L. Bussey of Charles Town; six sisters, Frances Hardy of Pennsauken, N.J., Esther Brown, Edna Bowie and Kathryn Lockley, all of Hagerstown, Eleanor Hosby of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Lillie Morris of Burkittsville, Md.; two brothers, William Hardy of Brunswick, Md., and Robert Hardy of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.


She was preceded in death by one brother, George C. Hardy; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Faith Tabernacle Church, Kearneysville. The Rev. Donald Marbury will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
