CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ellen I. Sullivan Dunbar, 76, of Manorcare Health Services of Chambersburg and formerly of 735 Ryan Lane, Greencastle, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at the nursing home.

Born April 22, 1932, in Greenville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late June and Plummer Luster Sullivan.

She was a graduate of Greenville High School.

She worked for Jewel Electronics in Manchester, N.H.

She was a Baptist.

She was a member of the NAACP and AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer Dunbar Sr., whom she married Oct. 31, 1947; two sons, Allen Dunbar of Agawam, Mass., and Elmer Dunbar Jr. of Prospect, Ky.; two sisters, Marie Jackson of Philadelphia and Molly Cureton of Greenville, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.


She was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley A. Jackson and Clover Dunbar; two sisters, Thomasena Cruel and Polly Washington; and two brothers, A.C. Sullivan and David Sullivan.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. Walter Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
