Christine T. McAdams, 80, of 11525 Dellwyn Drive, Hagerstown, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at her home after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born May 9, 1928, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late J. Earl and Cora Strite Troup.

She was the youngest of three girls, raised on the farm owned and operated by her father and mother, which is now known as Greenberry Hills.

She was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She attended and graduated from Columbia Business College in Hagerstown in 1947.

Prior to becoming a homemaker, she worked at Esso Standard Oil from 1947 to 1948, and at Wright Gardner Insurance Co. as an insurance underwriter from 1948 to 1952.

She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority for over 50 years.

She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara K. Hoover and her husband, Gregory; Tina B. Feigley and her husband, James Jr.; Wendy S. Payne; Tracy L. Morgan and her husband, Michael; and one son, Christopher E. McAdams, all of Hagerstown; and one sister, A. Joanne Bates of Newport News, Va. Also six grandchildren, Jason G. Hoover, Brent A. Hoover, Jared N. Payne, Matthew R. Payne, Jordan P. Payne and Shayla F. Morgan; and three great-grandsons, along with nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, George R. McAdams, who died in 1984; and her sister, Mary Beth McDuffee of Glen, N.Y., who died in 2005.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating.

Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
