What a tease of spring, don't you think? This is a reminder of all the outside work the yard and house will need before spring officially gets here.




Softball registration

Many Boonsboro residents participate in the Washington County Girls' Softball League.

Registration for third grade through eighth grade will take place at Dick's Sporting Goods in the Centre at Hagerstown (the Wal-Mart shopping center) on the following dates: Saturday, Feb. 14 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sign-ups will also be at Extra-Innings on Wednesdays, Feb. 18 and 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

South Mountain LL

South Mountain Little League and South Mountain Junior/Senior League will hold registration at the following locations on the following dates and times:

Thursday, Feb. 12, 6 to 8 p.m., community building, Shafer Memorial Park; Friday, Feb. 13, 6 to 8 p.m., community building, Shafer Memorial Park; Saturday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Boonsboro Fire Hall.

The league provides a full chartered Little League and junior/senior baseball instruction for those ages 5 through 16. It offers T-ball, coach pitch, minor league, major league and junior/senior league programs.

Dinner planned

Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church will host a fundraising dinner Sunday at noon. The menu includes baked ham, macaroni and cheese, green beans, rolls and drinks. Donations are welcome to cover the cost of the meal. All proceeds will support the Volunteers in Mission team which will be heading to Louisiana. The team leaves Feb. 21 and returns March 8.




Girls off to Orlando

Several local show girls are headed to Orlando, Fla., with the Washington County Show Kids.

Lexi Hoffman, Hailey Shelton, Taylor Foreman, and Harley and Chelsea Wenner will compete at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex over Valentine's Day. Good luck, girls!




Library news

Lots of good things happening at the library:

o On Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the community room, Personal Safety for Tweens and Teens will be presented by Deputy Dan Watson of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Watson will discuss a wide variety of topics concerning personal safety in the home, in public, in school, on the Internet and in the car.

o On Saturday at 11 a.m., there will be a special Valentine's story time and craft. Miss Marcella will read stories and present a special craft with a Valentine theme. All ages are welcome.

o On Tuesday, Feb.17, at 2 p.m Personal Safety for Seniors and other adults will be presented by Deputy Dan Watson of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Watson will discuss a wide variety of personal safety issues such as identity theft, driving, fraud, scams, home security and community security. He will also give advice on how to take opportunities away from criminals.

Also on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. in the community room, a book sharing event titled "Tweens and Teens: Let's Talk About Books" will be held. Refreshments will be served, so please register at the Boonsboro Library at 301-432-5723.




Book Signing

Turn the Page Bookstore and Caf will host JD Robb/Nora Roberts, Dianna Raybourn, Donna Kauffman and Mariah Stewart in a book-signing event Saturday, Feb. 21, at the store, 18 N. Main St. in Boonsboro from 1 to 3 p.m.

Mark your calendars now for the Washington Romance Writers Mega Booksigning on Friday, April 17.




Oyster supper

The Rohrersville Ruritan will host an oyster, ham and turkey supper on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Ruritan School just off Md. 67 south of Boonsboro. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $7 for those ages 6 to 12. The school is handicapped-accessible. Bring your own containers for take-out.

Indoor yard sale

Reserve a table now for an indoor yard sale at St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road (Md. 68) on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The snow date is March 7. Table space is available for $15. Tables available for $5 each. Contact Sam Griffith for rentals at 301-582-3343.




Class of 1977

Boonsboro High School Class of 1977 members are turning 50. To celebrate, the class is planning a group cruise to the Bahamas and other ports of call.
