Council pays to market Hagerstown

February 10, 2009

Hagerstown Advance is the catchphrase city officials will use from now on to promote economic development in the city.

The phrase was the creation of High Rock Studios, Ridge Runner Publishing, Fleetwood Design and 2nd Floor Media -- four local companies the City Council hired for $58,000 last year to market Hagerstown.

On Tuesday, the four companies presented the phrase to the mayor and council as just one of their marketing ideas.

Tim Latsbaugh of 2nd Floor Media said another part of the economic development initiative includes designing a Web site to draw businesses to the city by identifying companies that have succeeded here.

City Economic Development Director Deborah Everhart said she hopes the economic development initiative will help fill the upper floors of vacant buildings downtown, attract higher-paying jobs and give the city a better presence on the Internet.
