February 10, 2009

FREDERICK, Md. -- An 18-year-old man and a female juvenile, both from Martinsburg, W.Va., were charged Monday following the crash of a stolen car on Interstate 70 in Frederick County, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

The crash of a 2007 Buick Lacrosse near the 46-mile marker on westbound I-70 was reported at 4:39 a.m. Monday. When troopers arrived, they found the vehicle unattended. The Buick, police learned, had been reported stolen in Berkeley County, W.Va., on Feb. 2.

Following a search of the area, Desmond Lamont Davis, 18, and the female juvenile were seen walking on U.S. 40 near the crash scene. A keyless entry remote and the keys to the vehicle were found in Davis' possession, as was a small amount of suspected marijuana, police said. More suspected marijuana was found under the driver's seat of the Buick, police said.

The juvenile admitted that she was driving the Buick and both admitted to possessing marijuana, the release said.

The female juvenile was then charged through the juvenile system with driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident, negligent driving, motor vehicle theft, theft over $500 and possession of marijuana. She was then released to her father at the Frederick barrack, the release said.

Davis was taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with motor vehicle theft, possession of marijuana and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia. A district court commissioner set his bond at $5,000, which was posted later in the day, the release said.
