The Teaches



J. Elwood and Vera Hykes Teach of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 17, 2009, at Mountain Gate Restaurant in Waynesboro, Pa.

A dinner was hosted by their son, Rodney and his wife, Lynn of Waynesboro, and daughter, Pam and her husband, Doug Mitchell of Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Mrs. Teach is the daughter of the late Amos and Alice Hykes. She works at Hagerstown Eye Specialists.

Mr. Teach is the son of the late Jacob and Grace Teach. He works at Cordermans Hardware Store after retiring from St. Lawrence Cement Co.

Mr. and Mrs. Teach were married on Dec. 24, 1958, at Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, Pa., by the Rev. Ray Brubaker of Florida.

They have two grandsons and two granddaughters.

The Bowerses



Robert and Margaret Bowers of Mercersburg, Pa., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise Hawaiian luau celebration on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the home of their granddaughter, Lacey Horst, in Greencastle, Pa. The luau was hosted by their children, grandchildren and great-children. More than 50 of the couple's family members and friends attended the celebration.

The Bowerses were married on June 21, 1958, at the Greencastle Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Luther Bowers and the Rev. Cyril Fowler, both now deceased.

Mrs. Bowers is the daughter of the late Theodore and Helen Amsley. She was employed as an insurance agent for the Tidd Byron Agency and McDowell Insurance for 30 years.

Mr. Bowers is the son of the late Rev. Luther and Viola Bowers. He was plant superintendent for Foremost Industries in Greencastle, for 42 years, retiring in October 2007.

They are active in ministry at Living Word Worship Center in Hagerstown.

The Bikles



Phil and Nida Bikle of Huntingtown, Md., and formerly of Hagerstown, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Nov. 3, 2008, with a surprise party at Woodman of the World. Family and friends joined the couple to celebrate the occasion, which was hosted by Margie and Bill Bikle of Dam #4, brother and sister-in-law of the couple.

Mrs. Bikle is the former Nida Bonds, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James J. Bonds.

Mr. Bikle is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian "Bud" Byer Bikle of Hagerstown. He is employed by the Calvert County Board of Education as a teacher at Northern High in Owings, Md.

The Bikles were married on Oct. 25, 1969, at Bethel Assembly in Hagerstown.

They have two sons, Philip Christian and Charles Joseph.
