Preps Area Roundup -- Martinsburg fights off Washington's upset bid

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- Isaac Thornton led all scorers with 22 points to lead top-ranked Martinsburg to a 61-57 victory over Washington on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (15-2, 4-0 Potomac Valley Conference) narrowly avoided becoming the second No. 1 team in The Herald-Mail Super 7 this year to lose to Washington, a first-year program.

The Patriots (7-7, 1-4) beat then-No. 1 Musselman 69-54 on Jan. 23.

Cameron Cato scored 11 points while Inshan Mohamed chipped in with 10 for the Bulldogs.

Charles Yates led the Patriots with 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists while Bradley Jackson had 16 points and Tyrek Collier added eight points.

J.D. Daniels aided the Applemen with 12 points. Musselman (14-1) led 62-18 after three quarters.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Corey Henneghan and Lee Townsend each had 17 points for Carlisle (11-6, 6-10), which took a 34-17 halftime lead on its way to the Mid-Penn Commonweath victory.

Orlando McBeth had 16 points and Rashon Bailey had 13 points for the Trojans (11-10, 7-9), who turned the ball over 28 times.

CLEAR SPRING -- Jordan Lavender led Clear Spring with 25 points and nine rebounds as the Blazers handled Berkeley Springs at home.

Kyle Crist had 10 points and 10 rebounds while Joel Rowe scored 12 points and Jordan Thurber brought down nine boards for Clear Spring (11-5), which led 24-6 after the first quarter. Brandon Glazer also dished out six assists in the win.

Mike Twigg scored a team-high 12 points for the Indians (5-10).
