Police identify woman in fatal crash

February 06, 2009

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - A Morgan County, W.Va., woman who was pronounced dead after the vehicle she was driving early Thursday crashed into a tree along Hedgesville Road (W.Va. 9) was identified as Mary F. Murray of Great Cacapon, W.Va., police said.

Murray, 58, was on her way to work in a black Chevrolet Blazer when the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree, according to a press release from Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Deputy Kevin Huffman.

Rescue personnel told police that Murray was unresponsive to medical treatment and was dead when they responded.

Huffman said he was dispatched at 6:19 a.m. to investigate the accident near 7697 Hedgesville Road.

A medical examiner said Thursday that Murray's injuries did not appear to be consistent with causing her death. The results of an autopsy that was arranged to be performed in Morgantown, W.Va., were not available Friday.

Sheriff Kenneth M. Lemaster Jr. said Thursday investigating deputies found no brake marks on the road that would have suggested the woman attempted to stop the vehicle
