FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Mahlon David Rose, 86, of 68 Clemson Drive, passed away suddenly, Monday, Feb. 2, 2009.

Born Wednesday, April 5, 1922, in Southampton, Long Island, New York, he was the son of the late Arthur Elton Rose and the late Gertrude Johnson Edwards Rose.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of New York University, receiving his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree in 1960.

Mahlon was employed with Crawford & Russell Inc. in Stamford, Conn., retiring after more than 25 years of service. He and his wife resided in Wilton, Conn., from 1963 to 1992, when they moved to Hampstead, N.C. He was a charter member of the Hampstead N.C. Flotilla 10-09 U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he served as Flotilla Commander from 1994-1996. He achieved qualification of Coxswain and Master Instructor, and served as Public Education Officer in the Flotilla. From 2002 till the present, they have been residing in Falling Waters, W.Va.


He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alma H. Rose; two daughters, Catherine A. Rose of Westport, Conn., and Barbara C. Barber of Coconut Creek, Fla.; one sister, Helen Rose Barry, of Aiken, S.C.; one brother, Donald L. Rose of Santa Ana, Calif.; four grandchildren, John Nicholas Musor of Westport, Melissa Barber Bordelon of Louisiana, Julian Z. Schwartz of Westport and Michael D. Barber of Louisiana; and many other loving family and friends.

Private services will be held at the discretion of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
