No. 6 South Hagerstown shook off a slow start and outscored Hancock 40-14 in the second half on its way to a 61-32 nonconference victory over the Panthers on Thursday.

The Rebels (9-7) rallied to take a 21-18 lead at halftime after trailing the Panthers (2-14) by one at the end of the first quarter.

"We came off that two-overtime game in Frederick and thought we had a cake walk, I believe," South coach Kevin Naylor said. "After I went through the sermon at halftime, everything sort of changed."

Shane Santell led South with 18 points, while Richie Baymon added 11 points, five assists and two steals. Tyree Jones and Jake Buchter each grabbed six rebounds and Nick Stubbs had six steals.

Tommy Kratz had nine points for the Panthers.
